Mathematic in effectMatematik i verkliga livet

An article in Washington Post describes how the setting of wage rates are done for top positioned people in american companies. Simply use the mean value for similar positions and give your man (it’s probably most often men) more than that. This method is used by 90% of all major american companies… This give some people a very good salary trend and it might still look like something natural because you are just using simple mathematics and logic. Or?

Another great example of how mathematic can be mistreated is the swedish company Trångsvikens Chark*. According to an article in swedish newspaper DN, their sausages contains 104% meat. The journalist calls a guy at the company and tries to explain that this might be a wrong way of using percent, but the company guy is very convinced about that they haven’t done anything wrong.

Reminds me of an old stand-up show by Hasse Alfredson. He tells about how he make panncakes. They should contist of 50% egg, 50% milk and 50% flour”. That recipe result in a lot of panncakes!
