Opps, he did it againOpps, he did it again

Of course I’m talking about Tom/Wax Audio. The man who gave us the most amazing mashup mixes the world ever seen. Lady Judas, Thunder Busters, Sad but superstitiuos and The Final Teen Spirit, to name a few of the best songs. Now he just released another song, combining Billy Idol’s “Rebel yell” and George Michael’s “Careless whisper”.

As usual, it’s certainly not two artists and songs you associate with each other, but the result is just great and a good new song is born.

And the question is, where is the line between composing and copying/stealing? I mean, even if it’s more then obvious where Tom got his “inspiration” (or whatever you should call it here :)), the final result is still something unique.

One final thought, since I’m trying to learn “Rebel yell” for our cover setlist: It’s good for me that it’s not “Careless rebel” I have to learn, because playing Steve Stevens solo is definitly hard enough in the original tempo…Det är såklart Tom/Wax Audio jag pratar om. Som vanligt är det kanske inte två artister och låtar man direkt förknippar med varandra, men resultatet är fantastiskt och egentligen en riktigt bra låt.

Så man frågar sig, var går egentligen gränsen mellan att komponera och kopiera/stjäla? Även om det är helt uppenbart varifrån Tom hämtat sin “inspiration” (eller vad man nu ska kalla det i det här fallet :)) så är ju faktiskt slutresultatet något helt eget och unikt.

En sista tanke om det här, eftersom jag håller på att försöka lära mig just “Rebel yell” till vårat cover-set. Det är en jäkla tur att det inte är “Careless rebel” vi ska spela. Att sätta Steve Stevens solo är svårt nog i original-tempot…
