The fear and panicSkräcken och paniken

Look at this thing. For a couple of hours it caused some serious fear and panic

Of course, there are certainly people around the world with worse problems. But when you recorded about 70% of the next EP with The Rockford Heroes, the last thing you want is that the computer suddenly just shut down.

But that was what happened. First I thought I’d blew a fuse, but all other equipment connected to the same outlet where still working. It was just the computer which seemed to be dead like a stone.

So I spent a few uncertain hours before I managed to unmount the power supply from an old computer and mount into the one I’m using now. One should of course think I could have done this faster, but to unmount the power supply from the chasse, the fan for the CPU had to be removed. It was easy to remove, but the snap buckle made me spend one of the two hours trying to make the fan to be attached steadily.

And, when everything was finished, the computer started again. Relief. I know that power supplys stops working from time to time, but you never know. It could have been something much worse.

But now I can admit that I kind of took the header to the extreme. It would for sure have been a bit time consuming if something had been seriously wrong with the computer, but I was never really worried that the recorded material could have been lost forever. After thinking about it for several years, I finally setup a proper backup solution two months ago, using the a nowadays very popular cloud service.

Most of them work the same. You download some software which are constantly running on your computer. You choose which folders/directories/files you want to backup. As soon as something is changed, the software immediately starts to upload the changes to a server.  And if something bad happens to the computer, the files remains on the server and you will be able to download them again.

There are a lot of services offering this, Dropbox, Box.com, and Google Drive are some of the more well known. But try to search for “online backup” and you will get a lot of suggestions!

And no matter what you choose: MAKE SURE TO INSTALL A BACKUP SERVICE BEFORE YOU NEED IT!!!

Have a nice sunday 🙂

Men vilket man än väljer: SE TILL ATT SKAFFA ETT ORDENTLIGT BACKUP-SYSTEM INNAN DET ÄR FÖRSENT!!!

Ha en fortsatt trevlig söndag 🙂
