Unskilled and unaware of it
I search for some more info about the quote “Ignorant people are more likely to believe they are brilliant, while intelligent people are more likely to underestimate themself” , which I posted a few days agon. I am not sure what came first, the quote or the science behind. But both certainly exists. So, here are some links for further reading:

“Unskilled and unaware of it” (Alan Bellows)

“Why we overestimate our competence” (Tori DeAngelis)

Those things might seem pretty obvious at the first. But the conseqences of this flaw in humans minds might be noticable. Or useful if you knows and understands about it. Even though the science proves that those who need to be aware of it are the least likely to do that 🙂

But think about what this might mean on a random work where a random number of people work. One is less skilled than the other, but doesn’t understand that. On the opposite, s/he are more likely to brag about her/his performance (while those with more insight about their own abilities usually are more uncertain about what they do). There is a big risk that the one who brag the most also is the one who get promoted.

How good will this person be when it comes to important descisions or promoting others?

And remember, “work” can be everything. Government, legal system and so on…

Unskilled and unaware of it

Sökte efter lite mer info om citatet “Ignorant people are more likely to believe they are brilliant, while intelligent people are more likely to underestimate themself” som jag postade häromdagen. Men båda existerar definitivt.

“Unskilled and unaware of it” (Alan Bellows)

“Why we overestimate our competence” (Tori DeAngelis)
