Finally!Äntligen!

Since long, I have thought that it would be great if you could make some real and decent healthy food which tastes just as onion chips. Yesterday, I achived this.

It’s really just a recipe of what we on the swedish west coast call hash browns (the meaning of this seems to differ somewhat around the country) which I’ve been using for several years, it only needed some tweaking.

The basic recipe is simple. Just put onion, potatoes (I usually never peel them, but it doesn’t matter much), egg, salt and peppar into a food processor, and run it until it become a pretty smooth paste. Then fry it like small pancakes.

What I believe made it, was to use more onion than usual, and use rapeseed oil for frying. Earlier, I always used olive oil, marge or butter. But I recently read that rapeseed oil can stand higher temperatures before dangerous substances are created, so I decided to use it from now on.

I usually eat it as it is, along with lingonberry jam. Sometimes also with bacon.

And, since this combination tastes so good, one might ask; Is it just as good to dip onion chips into lingonberry jam? Have to try it to find out…


Här länge tänkt att det vore riktigt gott om man kunde laga riktig och hyfsat nyttig mat som smakar som grillchips. Igår lyckades jag helt plötsligt.

Det är egentligen ett recept på vad vi på västkusten kallar rårakor (innebörden av det verkar skilja sig en del runt om i landet), som bara behövde förfinas lite.

Grund-receptet är enkelt, kör lök, potatis (jag brukar inte skala, men det gör man som man vill), ägg, salt och peppar i en mixer/matberedare tills det blir en hyfsat jämn smet. Sen är det bara att steka lagom stora plättar av smeten.

Det som jag tror gjorde tricket igår var att ha lite mer lök än vanligt, samt att steka i rapsolja. Innan har jag kört olivolja, margarin eller smör. Men så läste jag häromveckan att rapsolja tål högre värme innan det bildas farliga ämnen.

Servera med lingonsylt, och om man vill lyxa till det, stek lite bacon till.

Och eftersom detta är så gott, så frågar man sig såklart: Är det gott att dippa grillchips i lingonsylt? Det är sånt man inte vet förrens man har provat…

    Oh, forgot… a basic recipe would be one BIG onion, 3-5 middle sized potatoes and one egg.
